What It's Like to Work There
Unique and polarizing. The Verona, WI campus is legendary (themed buildings, underground tunnels). Judy Faulkner's vision is everywhere. Epic requires employees to work on-campus, doesn't do remote work, and has a distinctive culture that employees either love or leave. Strong mentorship for new grads.
Resume Tips for Epic Systems
Epic hires a lot of new grads and values aptitude over specific experience. Show strong problem-solving skills and academic achievement.
If you have healthcare IT experience (HL7, FHIR, EHR implementations, clinical workflows), highlight it. But it's not required.
Epic uses proprietary technology stacks (MUMPS/Caché). Don't worry about listing specific languages. They care about your ability to learn.
Show you can explain complex systems to non-technical people. Epic staff work directly with hospital clinicians.
Mention any project management or implementation experience. Many Epic roles involve deploying software at hospital systems.
Hiring Process
Online application with a skills assessment and cognitive aptitude test
Phone interview with a recruiter and sometimes a technical screening
Onsite interview day at their Verona, WI campus (they strongly prefer in-person)
Group activities and individual interviews; you'll likely meet with multiple teams
Interview Style
Aptitude-focused rather than experience-focused. Expect logic puzzles, problem-solving exercises, and group activities alongside traditional interviews. They assess how you think, communicate, and collaborate more than what you already know. The campus visit is part of the evaluation.
